Why we work in teams
CF consultants are key members of McKinsey teams dedicated to enhancing clients’ performance. The team approach makes it possible to tackle our clients' most complex issues. Team members exchange ideas, challenge one another's facts and conclusions, and cross check judgments in an open and honest atmosphere. By bringing together CF consultants and specialist with generalist consultants, we combine leading functional knowledge with client and industry expertise. Integrating the differences in nationality, culture, education, and interests on McKinsey teams is an exhilarating experience. It's also fun!
How we structure our teams
In CF, a McKinsey team is typically composed of a Director or Principal (our terms for partners), one or more Associates or Business Analysts (Associates-in-training) and an Engagement Manager (a consultant with several years of McKinsey experience), along with, in some cases, a Specialist or an Analyst with specific CF expertise.
We normally have mixed teams of generalist and CF consultants that include members from any McKinsey office around the globe. CF is a very international environment in which international exchange is frequent and which also offers the opportunity to work together with other professional advisers (bankers, lawyers, and accountants).
The entire team has the responsibility for planning and conducting the engagement, maintaining relationships with the client, participating in every phase of the engagement, and ensuring the ultimate quality of the work and impact delivered to the client.
The engagement manager is responsible for the day-to-day work of the team and coaching of team members. Associates and business analysts play an active role in all aspects of the engagement: fact gathering, analysis, development and communication of recommendations, and implementation.
